RED BULL INDIANAPOLIS GRAND PRIX, MotoGP INFORMATION 

• Marc Marquez is starting from pole for the eighth time in 2014. Marquez has won in all four previous MotoGP appearances in the USA and is aiming to become the first rider since Mick Doohan in 1997 to win ten successive premier class GP races 

• Andrea Dovizioso is in second place on the grid, which is his best qualifying result since he was on pole at the Japanese GP in 2010 

• Jorge Lorenzo is in third place on the grid – his fifth front row start of 2014. Lorenzo has finished on the podium five times from his six appearances at Indianapolis, including a win in 2009 

• Aleix Espargaro is in fourth place on the grid – the sixth time this year he has qualified on the second row. Espargaro has finished in the top ten eight times in the first nine races of the year 

• In fifth place on the grid is Valentino Rossi, who will be aiming to finish on the podium at Indianapolis for the first time since he won on the first visit to the circuit in 2008 

• Pol Espargaro has qualified in sixth place on the grid. He has finished on the podium five times in the smaller GP classes at Indianapolis, including his first ever GP win in the 125cc class in 2009 

• Andrea Iannone, who heads the third row of the grid, will be aiming to back up his result from the last GP in Germany where he was first Ducati across the line in fifth place – his best result since moving up to the MotoGP class 

• In eighth place on the grid is Dani Pedrosa, who has finished either first or second for the last four years at Indianapolis 

• Bradley Smith starts from the final place on the third row of the grid after suffering a heavy crash during the qualifying session 

• Stefan Bradl is the tenth fastest qualifier and is starting from his worst grid position since he was tenth on the grid at the Catalan GP last year 

• Scott Redding starts from 11th place on the grid – his best qualifying result so far in his rookie season in the MotoGP class 

• The last nine MotoGP races in the USA have been won by Honda riders. The last non-Honda MotoGP winner in the USA was Jorge Lorenzo, at Laguna Seca in 2010 riding a Yamaha 

• Leon Camier, making his debut in the MotoGP class, has qualified in 16th place on the grid. With the addition of Camier there are five British riders lining up on the grid in Indianapolis: the highest number of British riders on a premier class grid since 1996
